Inspiration Behind the Name
The Hobby is named after Mrs. Oveta Culp Hobby, wife of former Texas Governor William P. Hobby. A strong and courageous woman, Mrs. Hobby began her career after graduating from University of Texas Law School at the Texas House of Representatives. A writer at heart, she eventually went to work for the Houston Post-Dispatch. During a time when women working as executives were almost unheard of, she proudly served as the executive vice president chair of the newspaper.
