Becker's, the family-owned and operated comfort footwear company, is located in the charming Historic Downtown Mount Dora, Florida. For almost two decades, a shoe store has stood its ground in Mount Dora. Starting out as a Birkenstock retailer in October 1999, the shop expanded after being purchased by Amy and Fred in October 2015. Offering an array of comfortable footwear, Amy's touch was adding vibrant colors and a wider variety to the store. "I like to say I brought the leaves to their tree," stated Amy, the proud owner with her husband. Discover your perfect pair at our colorful and diverse store.

Amy reveals that their shoe store purchase was inspired by a brand of shoes that helped ease her Plantar Fasciitis, heel spurs, and high arch. She highlights the importance of wearing the right shoes and how her own painful foot issues have helped her understand customer needs. Acknowledging that everyone's feet are different, Amy emphasizes the personalized approach their store takes in catering to each customer's unique foot requirements.

With a retail work background and a family history in the clothing business, Amy's passion for footwear is in her genes. Her grandfather's women's clothing store, Benoit's, was a household name in the South. Her mother also had her own ladies' clothing store, Betsy's Hanger. However, Amy's priority is ensuring the comfort of her feet, which is why she and her professional and friendly staff are committed to helping every customer find the right shoe for them. As Amy explains, many of us have shoes that simply don't work for us. It's heartening for her to hear when a customer says, "You have really helped me."

The Company Grows

In 2020, Becker’s Best Shoes relocated to a newly renovated space next door, tripling the store’s size to better serve its growing customer base.

The new location gives Becker’s more room for stock, as well as for social distancing, an issue which is on everyone’s mind right now. “I always wanted to create conversation between staff and customers. Our seating arrangement stimulates conversation. Customers sit across from each other. Everyone gets to talking about life and other things. The conversations have led to lots of laughter, and even tears,” said Amy. 

Besides serving the residents of the local communities, Becker’s Best Shoes also gives back to the community. Amy explained: “We are members of the Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce. As a Board Member she is very active with the local community. We are also a very active with Soles 4 Souls, a worldwide charity that supplies shoes for all of the United States and 126 countries. And we are always donating to school raffles, and many charity fundraisers.”
